I also found out that there was to be a crowdfunded Slender Man film called Entity in 2013, which was scrapped because the character, despite his meme status, is technically still property of Victor Surge – the Something Awful user who first edited him into spooky photographs all those years ago. So okay, maybe Slender Man is the first true movie about the tall, well-dressed abomination from the woods (excluding that one HBO documentary of course). But 2015’s Always Watching is strictly speaking the only “Slender Man movie” I can recall, and that one technically starred The Operator, as the character was named when he appeared in Marble Hornets, long before anyone but people like me cared about him. When I found out about a feature-length horror film based on the Slender Man mythos, I wanted to say something to tune of “wait, another one?” – as though I’m actually surprised that someone made a film based on something despite that “something” already being the basis of several movies. ![]()
